Design and Testing of a New Piezoelectric-Actuated Symmetric Compliant Microgripper

Precise and stable operations in micromanipulation microassembly require a high-performance microgripper. To improve the predominant static dynamic characteristics, novel piezoelectric-actuated compliant microgripper is designed, analyzed, tested this paper. The realizes large gripping stroke by integrating bridge mechanism, an L-shaped levered parallelogram mechanism. Optimization technology based on response surface analysis applied to demonstrate influence of structural parameters performance. Simulation results finite element reveal superior performance designed terms displacement, mechanism stiffness, equivalent stress, natural frequency. A gripper prototype has been fabricated, experimental studies have conducted test microgripper’s physical properties. Experimental show that can grasp micro-objects with maximum jaw motion 312.8 ?m, frequency 786 Hz, resolution ±0.6 force ±1.69 mN. tests optical fiber diameter 200 ?m metal sheet thickness 100 performed its capability position control.
